Canyoning in the Río Verde Ravine, Granada

TheRío Verde ravine, also known as Las Chorreras ravine, is located in the municipality of Otívar, inGranada strong>. It is one of the most significant ravines in Andalusia. This ravine is located within the Sierras de Tejeda, Almijara and Alhama Natural Park, which delimits the provinces of Málaga and Granada.

This ravine is characterized by its green, crystalline waters and its sunny channel. It has a distance of 20 kilometers in length and empties into the Mediterranean through the municipalities of Lentegí, Jete and Almuñécar.

Río Verde Ravine


The level of difficulty is low and the descent can be done at any time of the year since its waters allow it and it is a very tropical area. Although the descent can be done at any time of the year, the most recommended months are between the months of March and October, where the temperature is ideal and the riverbed is perfect. The duration of the descent is 4-5 hours, but if you do the integral descent it is approximately 6-7 hours.

Depending on your experience descending ravines, there are two descent options: halfway down the river, which is the easiest section and what more people do; and the integral which is the complete descent and is more aimed at more initiated canyoners.
During the descent you will find waterfalls, canyon areas, waterfalls and turquoise pools of water.

The first section is shorter, but very vertical. You will pass several rappels, slides and jumps of different heights. The rappels during the descent are simple, they do not exceed 12 meters in height and are perfectly jumpable.

The slides are one of the tourist attractions for those who visit this ravine. They are ideal to go with the family or on an excursion and spend a spectacular day.

The first section of the ravine has a medium difficulty and is aimed at those who do not want to miss anything in the ravine and have some experience descending ravines. This section begins at the confluence with the Los Madroñales ravine, near the Cueva de Funes waterfall. Due to this, it is a little traveled section.

 Integral Río Verde Ravine


The simplest and busiest section is the section known as "Los Caños Cruzados". This is the section that most people usually do since it is not very complicated, the jumps are low and there are few rappels. It is the perfect stretch to be accompanied by children who will have a great time.
