Why is it called a "fly"?

What is fly fishing?
Fly fishing consists of making a movement with the rod in such a way that it looks like a whip. To do this, the rod has to be as light as possible and it is highly recommended that it be flexible, this will make movements easier.
- How do you cast the rod? Very easy: you pull the rod back, pause and cast forward again. The farther we want the fly to go, the longer the pause should be.

Types of lures
There are different types, the choice of which will depend on the place where we carry out the activity and the type of fish we want to catch, since there are those that swim closer to the surface and others that, on the contrary, are found in the depths. The best known are:
- Dry fly. It imitates the behavior of insects, as it floats in water just like they could. The materials it will be composed of, therefore, will be feathers and hair.
- Nymph (or wet fly). In this case, a lure is used that imitates the larva of a fly so it is submerged in the water. For this, heavier materials are used than in the previous case. In addition, ballasts are used to promote deepening.
- Streamers. Easy to use, it is one of the smallest and is usually aimed at trout fishing, imitating crustaceans or small fish. Ballast is also used in this case.
The line is another of the most important characteristics to take into account, you could even say that it is the fundamental part. It is a silk or synthetic material line that joins the line to the lure and is designed to be able to cast the lure without the need to add weight. There are three categories of fundamental lines: rocket taper (ideal if you want to reach long distances), double taper (suitable for small rivers) and shooting tapers (they reach further distance than the first).
