The majority of back injuries are due to our behavior, both in daily life and if we practice active tourism. We must take into account some recommendations so that we can enjoy life without injuries of any kind.

From the point of view of evolution we have been designed to walk "on all fours". When our ancestors adopted the upright posture six million years ago, the consequences were, for example, better vision (they could see a more distant horizon, better establish the measurement of things according to their own dimensions, etc.), our forelimbs (arms and hands) could be specialized in tasks that go beyond support and defense, etc. But they also had disastrous consequences for the spine, which from then on would have to carry the weight of most of the body.

Take the necessary precautions

Therefore, we must consider our back as one of the "jewels" that must be pampered the most among all the "treasures" that our body contains. Learning techniques to protect our back, such as lifting very heavy objects without straining it, is - obviously - much more profitable than undergoing various treatments once we have already been injured.

In the case of picking up heavy objects, the solution is simple, although getting used to it is another thing. In general, our custom is to do just the opposite; When we bend down to lift a heavy object we do it by bending our spine when in reality what has to do the work are our legs and our arms.

When we drop something on the floor, for example a pen or keys, how do we pick it up? Bending the back. We never bend over with our legs. Every time we do that - and there are many times - we are mistreating our spine. In fact, most common back injuries result from improper lifting. In short, you have to get used to it (it is not easy) to "go down" with your legs; No matter how elastic we think we are, if we have "bent over" with our backs, it is not the same as doing the reverse route with a weight.

 Learn to lift heavy objects

It is important to learn to lift heavy objects. You have to get advice from a specialist and then get used to doing it on a "day-to-day" basis, which is the most difficult. Reinforcement and maintenance exercises don't hurt. Consult your doctor or a serious specialist.

Also when we do adventure sports, such as snowboard, we have to take into account that when turning or falling, our back can suffer some mishap. Taking the necessary precautions is what will save us from possible uncomfortable injuries.
