Cousteau died when Pierre-Yves was only 16 years old, but he left him with his passion for the sea.

Pierre-Yves Cousteau and the Cousteau Society
Today he plays an important role, not only in preserving his father's legacy, but also in continuing the work that took him so many years of his life. In addition to being CEO of the foundation that his father started back in 1973, he strives every day to carry out three fundamental missions together with his entire team: >

- Environment. They carry out expeditions to study the human impact on marine ecosystems with the main intention of studying the causes and trying to find a remedy. They focus on coral reefs and coastlines, marine mammals and fight for a sustainable fishing industry.
- Sharing knowledge. One of the main functions is educational, thanks to which they disseminate the results of their studies to try to raise awareness among the population. Among other actions, they have the "Cousteau in the Classroom" project, through which they go to schools and teach among the youngest.
- Technological tools. They make materials with the latest technology for diving trips by boat. The best and most complete information on what they have called "modern diving."
Pierre-Yves Cousteau in Madrid
On the occasion of the celebration of the Dive Travel Show, of which you can see more information here , held last March, we had the opportunity to see Cousteau's son and he gave an interview to our Yumping France team. If you know French, you can check the interview here ;)

In it he told us about his project "Cousteau Divers", thank you which is bringing together divers from all over the world in order to become agents of protection and study of the marine environment. There is a part of this initiative dedicated to people who are not scientists but report the state of the ocean and its species when they dive.
How can they participate? They have a social network thanks to which users can publish their photos and videos, this material being geo-located, dated, and also informing the place where the images were. species, type of fish that can be found in the area, etc.
One of Pierre-Yves' concerns is to preserve the marine environment and try to form a community in which all divers in the world contribute their grain of sand to, together, have a clearer vision of the current situation. Thanks to this data collection, we can try to develop a way to stop the damage caused by man and thus conserve marine species.
