Carlos Soria's challenge is to finish his adventure to conquer the 14 eight-thousanders that he has spent practically his entire life behind. A retired mountaineer who has worked as an upholsterer and in his free time took advantage of touring the mountains. At 72 years old, he has decided to head towards the 3 eight-thousanders he has left to conquer: Dhaulagiri, Kanchenjunga and Annapurna.

It has the support of BBVA to carry out this project. Finally he found a sponsor and Carlos Soria represents the values that they always want to transmit to their clients: integrity, commitment, passion for what they do, cooperation... He has finally been able to leave behind those expeditions on which he had to depend of a limited budget: now not only him, but his entire team will have expenses covered on the three planned expeditions.

Lovers of climbing will understand what Carlos Soria feels every time he reaches the top of a mountain, and that is that it is an experience unique. Not everyone has the time, the money, or the desire to get down to work, grab the necessary luggage and material, and embark on the adventure of trying to conquer the highest peaks in the world.

Carlos Soria's challenge

The mountaineer has been crowning peaks since 1973 and it was in 1990 when he undertook his first trip to Nanga Parbat, the ninth highest mountain in the world located in Pakistan. Since then, he did not hesitate to continue traveling the planet with the intention of reaching 14 eight-thousanders and ascended Gasherbrum II and Cho Oyu in 1994, Everest in 2011, K2 in 2004, Broad Peak in 2005, Shisha Pangma in 2007, the Gasherbrum in 2009, the Makalu in 2010 and the Lhotse in 2011.

The next destination is Dhaulagiri and we still have to wait two years to reach Kachenjunga and Annapurna. Ahead he still has many adventures to live and a dream to achieve. As he often says, it is normal to sometimes have doubts about returning. He says that the first time he felt that fear was in Manaslu, due to the bad weather, which you can't always trust... But he not only managed to return but that almost 40 years later continues to climb and propose great challenges.

The expedition left on August 26 and at this point they have already made the approach and have arrived at the base camp after inspecting the conditions of the mountain. This fall we hope to reach the top and we will have to see how the protagonists of the story progress, since Carlos Soria has a team of true professionals eager to work: Daniel Salas, Darío Rodríguez, Luis Miguel López, Sito Carcavilla and Carlos Martínez.

Here we leave you with a presentation video so that you can learn more about this 72-year-old from Ávila who will become the fourth Spaniard to cross the 14 eight-thousanders, after Juanito Oiarzabal, Alberto Iñurrategi and Edurne Pasaban. Enjoy it!
