Due to the beauty of its landscape, Asturias is one of the best national destinations and one of the most visited. Its contrast between beach and mountains, its green image that characterizes it, its gastronomy, its people... An endless number of qualities that make for the visitor a form of total disconnection.

But we are going to focus on nature, and for the most adventurous (and the not so adventurous), we are going to select the best routes for hiking in the Principality. Long walks exploring authentic wonders. Grab a pen and paper because hiking in Asturias is a magnet for all types of mortals.

THE 5 BEST HIKING ROUTES IN ASTURIAS

1. Cares Route – Heart-stopping gorges!

Who has not heard of the Cares Route? One of the best-known trails in the entire Principality and also one of the best-known in the entire country. It runs through the gorge of the Cares River in the middle of the majestic Picos de Europa. What not many people know is that it begins in Asturias and ends in León, specifically it begins in Poncebos and ends in Caín.

It is a linear route that can be done in approximately 3-4 hours and about 12 km long. You can continue to Posada de Valdeón and add 9.5 km to the route. The spectacular landscape will leave you with an open wedding. Welcome to the Mecca of hiking in Asturias.

2. Bear Trail An old train track!

The route of the train track. The Senda del Oso takes the path where a train that transported coal from Santa Marina (Quirós) to Trubia used to circulate (year 1884). A later branch was built to Teverga, completed in 1902. Nothing remains of that, only the path along which it circulated.

Now it has become the busiest greenway in the principality. And no wonder! Also for bicycle lovers, since it is in excellent condition. A spectacular green picture full of vegetation, impressive landscapes for a dream route, alone, or with your friends and family.

3. Xanas Gorge You might see a fairy!

For many it is a mini Cares route. Its length barely exceeds 3 km and although it is much less crowded, for many it is even more beautiful. It is a route carved into the rock in what was going to be a project to link several towns in the area.

The "fairy" gorge (hence its name) is a steep but easy path to take with the family and is considered by many to be even more beautiful than its older sister. If you want to find out, you will have no choice but to visit it.

4. Lakes of Covadonga La Santina!

A circular route of approximately 6 km in the middle of the Los Picos de Europa National Park. Specifically in the council of Cangas de Onís, this easy route runs through one of the most beautiful landscapes in the entire principality. As points of interest there is logically the visit to the 3 glacial lakes and the sanctuary of Covadonga.

Lake Enol, Laguna Bricial (only visible certain days of the year) and Lake Ercina will be what we will border on this route suitable for the whole family. We warn you of its spectacular nature, so we recommend that you do it without a second's hesitation if you are going to drop by the area.

5. The Jesters of Pría Spitting at the sky!

We come to the last one on the list, the Jesters of Pría (Llames de Pría). Have you heard of them? We move to the wildest coast of the Principality.
If you don't know what a Jester is (no, I'm not referring to the jesters of the Middle Ages who entertained the court) here we explain it to you:
The Jesters are holes in the rock through which the pressurized water that has previously filtered in comes out. Something spectacular for all the senses. Watch the video!

The PR-AS 57 route runs through here, a circular route approximately 14 kilometers long, which begins in Llames de Pría and reaches Cuevas del Mar beach. A practically flat route in its entirety and in which you will enjoy the cliffs of the area and the curtains of water that the Jesters form.

Now that you know just some of the coolest hiking routes in Asturias, it's your turn to walk them and tell us about your experience.
