To dive in the Valencian Community you will find beautiful landscapes and, which further increases the attractiveness of this area, suitable for carrying out adventure activities. This is the case of Cabo de San Martín, a paradise for divers. There you can find the diving point called "Cueva de la Virgen".
Although it is an easy route, intended for novice divers, you will have to have a qualification to dive on your own (if you are interested in diving but you do not have experience, we recommend that you start with a baptism of diving, to try, and then sign up for a course). The maximum depth you will reach does not exceed 20 meters. You will arrive at the diving point sailing from Xábea, heading south.
The greatest attraction of this route, located on the north side of Portitxol, you will find as soon as you dive. Anchoring about 10 meters deep, heading NE, you will reach a rock that, after advancing a little, you will be able to access through a large fissure.

Before entering it, surround the rock and allow yourself the luxury of observing thelarge number of species that inhabit its exterior. Once you have examined the walls well, it is time to enter the cave.
After sliding through the slot, you will find an underwater chapel that has a monolith in honor of the Virgen de los Desamparados. It will be like finding a treasure. A treasure that was submerged in 1977 and restored in 2007, proceeding to its new immersion in 2009.
Delight in the interiors of the cave, which offer impressive views caused by the passage of light from the surface through the fissures. But calculate your time and plan your route around 45 minutes, since the water temperature is around 15º and is not very bearable for longer dives.

We recommend that you enter very carefully for two reasons:
- If you want to see certain species, you will have to be careful not to scare them away.
- The monolith is placed on sandy soil, which becomes muddy with the slightest movement. You will have to control the "fall" if you do not want to waste time waiting for the waters to calm down.

The large number of slots, the existence of several arches, the monolith and the underwater life it hosts make this route a very intense route in which you can see lobsters, conger eels and even moray eels.
This is a good area to practice underwater photography (you can more information here), because it does not have large currents, as this north side of the island of Portitxol is protected from southerly winds. The large access cavities to the cave allow you to pass through with photographic equipment without problems, and both the monument to the virgin and the species we have told you about await you inside the cave.
Once this underwater route is finished, which you can do day or night, the landscape that awaits you outside is nothing to waste. The Mediterranean vegetation and the cliffs that the island of Portitxol shows, are the ideal element to complete your day on the coast of Xábia.
If you are looking for adiving route with great interest and little difficulty, you already have an idea, now you just have to go ahead and immerse yourself in the Cueva de la Virgen. And don't forget to tell us about your experience!
