Although it may seem like a lie, in Spain we have beaches that are perfect for practicing a technical sport such as windsurfing. A large number of coastal areas have the necessary characteristics to enjoy and learn about this sport and if you want to discover a new hobby, this is the time.
Wind and sea come together so you can enjoy one of the most exciting sports, since enjoying windsurfing on our coast is a luxury, but in order to learn in good conditions, you must first know all the technical equipment that you need. Take note that we will tell you everything you need!
What do I need to jump into the sea and practice windsurfing?
When we talk about materials, we can always differentiate, on the one hand the technical equipment and on the other hand the personal equipment:
Technical team
- Table. Composed of polyethylene foam coated with epoxy resin. You are standing on it and depending on the use you are going to give it, it will have some measurements or others.

- Keel, aileron or fin. Necessary so that you do not drift. If you want to have control over the waves, you won't be able to do without it, located near the stern.
- Webbing. To begin with, it is the best, as it unites you with the board and will make certain movements easier for you when you have a little more practice.
- Folding daggerboard. When your board is big enough to need some control, as well as to avoid drifting when you have not yet reached the speed necessary to plan.
- Adapter. Join mast and boom.
- Boat. It is made up of two tubes, which are attached at one end to the mast and at the other to the sail through a rope.
- Mast foot. It joins the rig to the board and transmits the force generated by the wind to the sail. It is usually from rubber.
- Mast. Attach the sail to the board.
- Sailing. It can be of different sizes and is what moves the board over the sea thanks to the speed of the wind.
Personal equipment
- Neoprene. There are different models and thicknesses, so you can practice it at any time of the year. There are even many windsurfers who only wear swimsuits. For tastes you already know!
- Shoes. It also depends on what you are looking for. They are recommended but not necessary.
- Life jacket. You better not forget!
