Acquarium Galicia is a private company with Galician capital that was born in 1996 with the aim of planning, building and managing the first aquarium in Galicia. Thus, on May 17, 1997, Acquarium Galicia opened its doors and became the first aquarium facility in the Galicia community, dedicated to the dissemination of our seas and the conservation of maritime heritage.

Our aquarium is located on a small spit of land completely surrounded by sea, on the northwest coast of the O Grove peninsula, where life is strongly linked to the sea. Every year more than 100,000 visitors visit the aquarium, of which 15,000 are schoolchildren immersed in educational programs and activities.

In 1999 the aquarium expanded its facilities with the construction of a new reception area and attention to visitors, as well as a new Active Space where it inaugurated Golfiños no Azul, a temporary exhibition on the presence of cetaceans throughout the coast. Galician.

After 5 years of operation, the aquarium began a process of renovation and theming of its facilities and services in October 2002, through a comprehensive three-year R&D plan. With it, the aquarium became an environmental facility that makes it easier for each visitor to understand and interpret the environmental and cultural heritage of seafaring Galicia.
