Where to go white water rafting in Barcelonnette?

- Rafting on the Ubaye River: The main activity in the valley is rafting on the Ubaye River. It has the advantage of providing challenging rafting courses for adrenaline junkies, and quieter routes for families to explore the joys of white water. There are five levels of difficulty on the Ubaye and its tributaries:

• Class I, where rapid currents with wavelets exist. There are a few obvious obstacles that can be readily avoided with minimum training.

• Class II, identical to first class but features rocks and waves of medium size.

• Class III is more difficult to navigate due to its uneven waves. These can be impossible to avoid because there are strong counter-currents. For the inexperienced, we suggest a reconnaissance.

• Class IV requires precise control of the raft in rough water and is meant for an advanced audience. There are enormous waves and big rolls that can't be avoided depending on the style and tiny passages that require quick reactions in stressful situations.

• Owing to its exceedingly long, congested and strong rapids, Class V is only for rafting specialists. Large waves and massive rollers can be found in passages in addition to narrow passes with complex and technically demanding trajectories.

- Rafting on the Bachelard River: The Bachelard River is an 8-kilometre-long navigable tributary of the Ubaye River, with classifications ranging from II to V. As a result, this river offers a challenging path that is only accessible in the spring, between May and June. This path is designed for the more energetic among you and will allow you to gaze out over a valley with stunning vistas, encircled by larch trees and protected by towering peaks.

The baby-raft is an activity designed to introduce young children to rafting. Little explorers as young as four years old will be able to experience white water in total peace and safety during a one-hour discovery plunge.
