Which beaches are recommended for surfing in Barcelona?

In El Masnou, Castelldefels, Barcelona, Sitges, Vilasar de Mar, Gava, Cabrera de Mar or the Montgat beaches you can do surf in any season of the year, if the waves are good enough for it.

Surf is one of the most practiced water sports. Let yourself be charmed by the waves.

Surf consists of trying to catch the waves whilst standing on the surfboard. At first, you will learn whilst lying down, until improving your balance. Likewise, you will start trying to catch small waves, and then the biggest ones.

It is a suitable water sport for both children and adults. You will be able to start from scratch and then improve gradually your skills. Watch out! This water sport is addictive! :) It has many variations, as Paddle Surf or Kitesurf. Knowing how to swim is the only requirement you will have to meet to surf. All the rest can be learned.

Surf has two different modalities depending on the size of the surfboard: shortboard, which is practiced with a short surfboard not exceeding 2.10 meters, and longboard, the traditional surf modality, which is practiced with about 2.75 meters surfboards.

Before catching waves in the sea, you will be doing some exercises on the land which will be very helpful when learning to surf. Participants are always divided into groups according to their level and age. Children and adults are usually divided because they normally have different learning paces.

What options do I have to practice this sport?

- If you are on holiday in Barcelona, you know how to do surfing but you don’t have the appropriate equipment, you will be able to rent per hours or per days either the surfboard or the neoprene wetsuit in Castedefells.

-If you want to get started in this water sport and have their first taste, you will find 1 and 3-hour group surf lessons in Barcelona, Masnou, Castelldefels, Sitges, Gavà and Cabrera del Mar. If you are a surf lover and want to receive more extensive training, there are available weekend surf courses in Vilasar de Mar or Barcelona City.

- If you wish for more personalized attention, or want to improve more quickly, you have the possibility of booking private surf lessons, where the instructor will meet you exclusively. You will be able to choose between the beaches of Gavà or Cabrera de Mar. Here we leave you another example.

- 4 or 5-day surf lessons and crash surfing lessons are also available, where you will be able to find out all the keys of surf and put them into practice. Quarterly surf lessons and day surf camps for children are also available.

In Cabrera de Mar you also have the possibility of celebrating a stag/hen do party or a teambuilding activity for groups.

In any of the courses, you will be accompanied by experts who will adapt it to your level and learning pace to help you succeed in your mission to become a surfer.
