about the activity of: Snorkeling on Mouro Island

Review translated from Spanish

I would not recommend this experience to anyone who is a size above the regulations.

They gave me what was supposed to be the largest wetsuit and after more than 30 minutes trying to climb it in a room without air conditioning and at 32° and with my knuckles literally bleeding from trying to climb it, the instructor came and just said “well, it is It's true that you're going to have problems” after making it clear to me that there were no other sizes and suggesting that the only solution was to stuff myself even more into the suit.

I know that there are many more sizes, since two days before at a surf school they gave me a wetsuit that I could put on by myself without problems.

The service contracted was snorkeling, which I would not recommend to anyone who has never done it. According to the website: “You will be accompanied by an instructor, who will help you if you have never used snorkeling equipment. He will be the one who helps you glimpse those species that live in these Cantabrian waters."

I'm going to take the trouble to rewrite the service so that no one else feels cheated:

“You will be accompanied only on the boat by several instructors who will not ask you what level you have, they will assume that you know what you are doing and they will dedicate themselves exclusively to keeping an eye on those who dive, whom they will help and even put on the fins while you You are left with a stupid face not knowing what the next step is. They will not help you if you have never used snorkeling equipment. What's more, they will respond that calm is something they don't have. You will not be able to glimpse any of the 2,000 species that inhabit Cantabrian waters because you will spend half the time figuring out how the equipment works on your own and the rest of the time without being very clear about what or where to look, since there is enough depth for scuba diving it will obviously not be a suitable place for snorkeling.”

Of course, on the way back they give cookies to regain strength.

Company's response:

Hello Silvia

We are extremely sorry that your experience was not as rewarding as you expected and we apologize for that. The trajectory and professionalism of our school is more than proven after 22 years but we continue to learn and try to improve every day, with comments like yours among others. Most people, even when they don't find what they expect in an aquatic activity, teach us a lot and value everything, including the positive.

You will understand that, given your opinion, we also take the trouble to answer your criticism so that at least the rest of the people who choose us for their experience have all the information in the most objective way.

This is probably not your case, but most people who practice surfing and diving know very well that the wetsuits necessary for these two aquatic activities differ completely for one fundamental issue. In surfing you need to have greater mobility to paddle, stand up on the board, swim to find it when you fall, etc. Neoprenes should be more elastic, they are generally not thick and that makes it much easier to put on and take off. Diving seeks minimum mobility to, as far as possible, be able to interact with marine life and enjoy the fauna. By moving as little as possible we stay colder, which is why we need thicker neoprenes, generally bi-lined, which are not as elastic and it takes more effort for all of us to put them on and take them off. It is a fact that may seem absurd to you but it is not and your unfortunate comment does a very significant harm, which also undermines the efforts of many professionals who strive to ensure that you have a pleasant leisure experience.

The sizes. Something very important for people who may be affected by thinking that there are no suits so big or so small that they can feel protected. We have state-of-the-art suits, new for this year and in sizes ranging from zero (XXS) to 7 (XXL) for people up to 2 meters tall and more than 100kg. I am sorry to inform you and the rest of the people who take the time to read this comment that we do not have custom-made suits, it would be unfeasible in all aspects. But we accompany and try to address this issue so that these people go to the water in the best conditions.

The thickness and material mean that we sometimes damage our knuckles because with the effort we break out into a hopeless sweat. I include myself because it is something more than usual for people who put on wetsuits of this type many times a month and a year.

No, we do not have air conditioning in our facilities. It is a place that keeps the temperature below 25º in summer, due to its underground location. I am not going to doubt that your sensation of 32º was not real, but with a fair degree of certainty that sensation could be the result of the effort of putting on the suit.

You were not accompanied in the water by any monitor, in fact. It is a limited and protected area that does not require supervision. In addition to the support boat, the snorkeling area has a small pier to lean on, get on or wait for the rest of the scheduled activities to be completed. They explained to you how to breathe through the snorkel tube, how to blow out the water in case it flooded, how to jump off the boat, the fins were removed expressly to get back on it. Even so, we will rectify this issue on the platform if the monitor is offered as you say. The price of this activity includes complete equipment, boat transfers, use of facilities, and mandatory insurance. A private monitor is not included, which of course can be hired separately if desired.

I finish by thanking you again for your comments and reiterating our apologies. I don't know if you have a business in which you are exposed like us to the fact that anyone can make such a subjective and unfair assessment on some issues that can cause such significant damage. I hope not, because you probably would have thought twice before writing all this.

I wish you to continue enjoying all your activities before returning home.

Greetings

Review translated from Spanish

It was my boyfriend's baptism of diving and he found the activity very enjoyable, the instructors were charming and professional and the atmosphere was very cool, they saw several marine animals including octopuses, fish and crabs.

The only drawback is that we had the activity booked for a Tuesday, we contacted the person in charge to confirm the date and the state of the sea and we had to change it to Wednesday because there were no places.

Forty minutes before he tells us that the activity, instead of at 9:00, was at 8:30, and it was 8:21 when they announced. It must also be said that they waited for us and there was no problem.

We will surely repeat! Thank you very much for the activity.

Very positive experience. Friendly and professional staff, with top brand materials, essential for an activity as technically complex as scuba diving. I would recommend it without hesitation.

From Madrid it is accessed from the A-67 via Reinosa. Both from the West (Asturias) and the East (Basque Country), the best access is via the A-8 highway. We are within the facilities of the Marina del Cantábrico Marina, next to the Santander airport and the town of Maliaño (Camargo). You have the shopping centers of El Corte Inglés and Valle Real 1 km from Mourosub, as well as several hotels, the center of Santander is a 5-minute drive away. The exit you must take to get to Mourosub from the A-8 highway is the one that indicates (POLIGONO DE RAOS – PUERTO DEPORTIVO). If you come from Bilbao, you will find it immediately after leaving for the airport. If you come from the plateau (A-67), Asturias or Santander, it is best to make the U-turn in front of the Valle Real Shopping Center, taking the airport exit, once you get back on the highway in the direction Santander is the exit indicated above.
