At the top of a small hill at the exit of Elciego (Álava), in the direction of Laguardia, Bodegas Murua is located, owned by the Masaveu Family since 1974, a classic reference in Rioja Alavesa . Their wines, Reservas and Grandes Reservas, come from 110 hectares of their own vineyards that have vines that in some cases are over 60 years old. From these old vines Murua produces classic and elegant wines that perfectly express the personality and soul of this land.
The extensive winemaking tradition of the Masaveu Family dates back to the times of Federico Masaveu Ripoll who in the mid-19th century built his own winery in Castellar del Vallès (Barcelona), where the family originates.
Surrounded by old vineyards and with the spectacular mountain range in the background, the Murua Wineries offer, in addition to the reception, production, barrel room and bottle room, a social area with large personalized rooms and a private dining room. with antique furniture where you can enjoy typical local meals, visits and meetings.
The winery also has an art collection; paintings, furniture, decorative objects... in which names of such prestigious artists as Tomás Hiepes, Juan de Arellano, Fernando Sotomayor, Valentín Zubiaurre, Francisco Bores, Daniel Quintero and Miquel Barceló are represented.
Within these facilities Bodegas Murua has an exclusive library, unique in the D.O.Ca. Rioja, where the winery holds hundreds of volumes that collect everything written about wine from the 16th century to the present day.
We offer wine lovers one-hour informative guided tours of the winery facilities with a detailed explanation of the process of making and tasting the winery's wines. Special visits for companies and professionals: contact the winery. For all visits it is necessary to make an appointment.
